When it comes to academic buildings we are seeing an increased trend to refurbish existing schools and the creation of new sustainable buildings that highlight natural light. By incorporating daylighting into these facilities, it addresses the wellbeing of the students and faculty. Numerous studies have suggested that daylighting in schools boosts concentration, reduces fatigue, improves attitude and the overall health of students.
The installation of skylights and curtainwalls contributes to greater energy efficiency, significant cost savings and reduced environmental impact. Many of the educational buildings that CGI has contributed to are leaders in energy efficiency and curtainwall design. Buildings such as The University of Calgary’s Energy. Environment. Experiential. Learning. (EEEL) building received "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Platinum", while UCLA Pauley Pavilion achieved LEED® Gold and The Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex received LEED® Silver accreditation.
