Unitized window and curtain wall systems designed and erected by CGI have proven to be high performance and cost effective for custom design projects. Unitized systems incorporate shop assembled and shop glazed unit frames which are shipped to the jobsite and interlocked as they are erected. Shop assembly and glazing allows for intense quality control and the ability to hold tight assembly tolerances. In terms of applications, unitized framing can be designed for punched window openings, horizontal ribbon wall and curtain wall areas.

The higher performance capabilities of unitized and curtain wall systems can be attained through the utilization of details that result in compliance with the Rain Screen Principle. Under this format, pressure equalization within the glass framing system restricts the opportunity for water to build up inside the system. Aesthetically this allows for a smaller frame profile due to the elimination of the requirement for high water legs or gutters within the framing system. Pressure equalized systems can meet or exceed the ASTM E331 15 psf mock-up water test.

Shop assembled frames can be stock piled in Cgi’s fabrication facility in advance of their installation, resulting in a “delivery as required” schedule. This often reduces site storage requirements and allows us to tailor our erection volume to specific job schedules. Efficient erection and reduced field labor combine to produce a competitively priced high performance project.

Materials other than glass, such as GFRC, EFIS, stone and metal panels, can be incorporated into unitized framing systems. Hence, the use of a unitized curtain wall system could eliminate the field installation costs of several related products resulting in project cost reductions.
